8 days Botswana: northern safari wonders by plane

The trip starts at the city of Maun, welcoming you with its typical Botswana vibe and the closeby Thamalakane River.

On your flight to the Khwai Community Concession, you can get a glimpse of the Okavango Delta from above, maybe even spotting elephants or hippos. Upon arrival, you explore the Khwai to see vicious (but also pretty cute) predators, buffalo herds and unspoilt nature at its best. A trip to a traditional Khwai village puts the cultural cherry on the safari cake.

Savuti wows you with four ecosystems and the crème de la crème of African wildlife that would even make the Serengeti blush.

And last but not least, Chobe Riverfront astonishes as the elephant capital of the world, being home to more than 120,000 elephants. Want to watch them play in the river? Certainly, just hop into a boat to see them up close, together with hippos, crocodiles, and countless other animals quenching their thirst at the shores.

Between these unforgettable moments, you can relax in cozy and welcoming lodges of our silver, gold or platinum category, leaving no wish unfulfilled.

Upon arrival in each lodge, you can pick two activities to do in this destination (included in your package). They are carried out by the lodge, and you will be joined by other guests, unless you book a private excursion. The links in the daily outlines below give you an idea of what’s possible.

Even before landing, you are treated to a spectacular preview, with low-altitude vistas over a vast, shimmering mosaic of waterways and islands. Day 2 - 3

Khwai Community Concession

Wedged between Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai Community Concession is where unfenced wilderness meets community spirit. Think roaming elephants, prowling predators, herds of buffalo and shimmering lagoons -  all wrapped into one spectacular safari playground. Add an amazing game drive, a peaceful mokoro safari in a dugout canoe, and a meaningful encounter with the Khwai village community in the mix, and you’ll have an experience as enriching as it is exhilarating.

Day 4 - 5

Savuti (Chobe National Park)

Savuti is one of Africa's most extraordinary and ever-changing wilderness areas, a vast, ancient landscape in the remote western reaches of Chobe National Park that has captivated explorers and wildlife enthusiasts for generations. Fed by the legendary Savuti Channel, its waters have come and gone over centuries, shaping a dramatic mosaic of dry riverbeds, open grasslands, and seasonal wetlands that draw some of the continent's most spectacular concentrations of wildlife on any game drive. A Savuti Marsh Excursion offers a rare and privileged window into this untamed world!

Day 6

Fly and drive from Savuti to Chobe Riverfront

The easiest and fastest way to get from one side of Chobe National Park to the other is to first fly from Savuti to Kasane, then drive from there to Chobe Riverfront. Your total travel time will be 2 hours, which means you'll have plenty of time for game drives!

It's also possible to drive the distance, which will take up to 3.5 hours.

Day 7

Chobe Riverfront (Chobe National Park)

The Chobe Riverfront stretches along the northern boundary of Chobe National Park, where the Chobe River separates Botswana from Namibia. The whole park is home to over 120,000 elephants - the largest remaining population in the world. Still, during the dry season, the herds gather along the riverfront in extraordinary numbers, alongside buffalo and plains game. Game drives along the riverfront put you in the middle of this, while a boat cruise on the Chobe River brings you eye to eye with hippos, crocodiles and elephants swimming, drinking or just bathing in the sun at the water's edge.

Accommodations:

Day 8

Flight home from Kasane International Airport

All good things come to an end. This is unfortunately your last day, and you will catch your flight home from Kasane International Airport. Enjoy the last aerial views of the Chobe River and the floodplains, potentially even the last herd of elephants, and cherish the memories of your fantastic Botswana adventure. Safe travels!
