Where & when to go on a safari?

The ideal time to go on safari in Kenya and Uganda is during the dry seasons, from June to September and again from January to February. During these months, vegetation is thinner, and animals tend to gather around water sources, making wildlife sightings more frequent and easier. In South Africa, the prime safari season runs from May to September, particularly in Kruger National Park. This period is characterized by dry, mild weather and excellent game visibility, offering outstanding conditions for unforgettable safari experiences.

On safari with children

Traveling with children creates unforgettable moments. Spotting a lion or an elephant on safari is an experience many kids will cherish for a lifetime. At the same time, family travel comes with its own challenges. We understand this well and are committed to making sure your family safari is both safe, comfortable and truly enjoyable for everyone.

Absolutely! In destinations such as Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, children get the unique chance to see the animals from their storybooks come to life. Our guides are fantastic with kids and love sharing engaging stories about nature, the Big Five, and playful lion cubs, turning each game drive into an exciting adventure.

When designing your family safari, we carefully tailor every detail to suit both parents and children. This may include shorter driving days, extra time to relax by the pool, child seats in the vehicle, plenty of snacks, and Wi-Fi where available. We also adapt activities when age restrictions apply, for example replacing chimp or gorilla trekking with more suitable experiences.

Safaris can be enjoyed with children of different ages, but we generally recommend traveling with kids from around 6 years old onwards. At this age, children are better able to handle longer drives, early mornings, and the excitement of game viewing. That said, every family is different. We are happy to tailor the itinerary to suit younger children as well, with shorter travel days, family-friendly lodges, and flexible activities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

We select family-friendly accommodations with facilities designed for younger travelers, such as swimming pools, children’s activities, and, in some cases, childcare or nanny services. This way, your entire family can enjoy a safe, relaxed, and unforgettable safari experience.

In addition to game drives, you can enjoy various experiences during your safari, such as:

  • Guided nature walks
  • Visits to local communities
  • Cultural sites and excursions
  • Relaxing at your lodge
  • Swimming pools and spa treatments
  • Family-friendly activities
  • Cycling, canoeing, or boat safaris
  • Beach extensions

This ensures a well-balanced journey with plenty of variety beyond safari drives.

Time in the safari vehicle can be a fun part of the adventure for children. Our guides love to involve kids by helping them spot animals, explaining tracks and sounds, and sharing exciting stories about wildlife. Children can play simple spotting games, use binoculars, keep a small safari checklist, or take photos of the animals they see. We also plan shorter game drives when traveling with families and include regular breaks, snacks, and time to stretch, making the jeep experience enjoyable and engaging for young travelers.

To make your safari even more comfortable for children, we can arrange a range of optional extras. These may include child safety seats for the safari vehicle, age-appropriate snacks during game drives, and binoculars so kids can spot wildlife up close. Just let us know your preferences, and we’ll be happy to include these extras in your itinerary.
