9 DAYS UGANDA: VISITING GORILLAS AND CHIMPANZEES

Seeing our closest relatives in the wild: a dream which will come true for you during this 9-day safari visiting gorillas and chimpanzees in their Ugandan home.

After your first night, you’ll directly be taken to Kibale National Park, the chimpanzee’s stronghold. In your finest hiking boots, you’ll make your way through the lush forest and marvel at the chimps playing, eating and climbing once you’ve found them. Even though this tour is mainly for visiting our primate cousins, we don’t want to keep the crème de la crème of African wildlife from you. They’re waiting for you in Queen Elizabeth National Park – and with they we mean giraffes, zebras, the rare shoebill and of course, the Big Five.

In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park it’s time for probably the biggest highlight: gorilla trekking! Get ready to hike through a beautiful rainforest and for the black giants to take your breath away – a unique experience which will give you goose bumps for the rest of your life. Your last experience waits in Lake Mburo National Park. You’ll get to discover the region with all its animals, scenery and little villages. A perfect ending to a perfect trip!

With approximately 1,500 chimps in several groups, you have a relatively high chance of seeing these fascinating animals in the wild. During chimpanzee trekking, expert guides take you through the lush rainforest, and once located, you can watch the chimps hop from tree to tree, play, eat and groom each other. Embark on an exceptional journey, as you drive from Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the splendid Ishasha sector. Witness lions sleeping in trees in Ishasha (one of the few places where these special big cats live) and drive on to see the landscape changing from savannah plains to lush green rain forests. In just three hours, you'll reach beautiful, green Bwindi, where the endangered mountain gorillas are waiting for you!

Mountain gorilla trekking in Rushaga (southern sector)

The Rushaga sector in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is special: eight gorilla families have made this green paradise their home, and a few of those are not used to humans yet. During a mountain gorilla trekking tour, you hike over relatively easy trails and spend an hour with the groups used to humans, or four hours with the furry giants not used to seeing you in their natural habitat. Watch the lazy ones eat, the young ones play and the silverback guarding his territory. This truly once-in-a-lifetime experience will leave you in awe forever… and maybe even bring a tear of joy to your eyes.
