As you step out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a member of our Africa Safari Trips team or a hotel driver greets you with a big smile: 'Karibu Kenya – welcome to Kenya!' He brings you straight to your hotel to relax and, along the way, you get your first impressions of vibrant Nairobi. Drive from Nairobi to Ol' Pejeta Conservancy

Activities:

: The drive from Nairobi to Ol’ Pejeta Conservancy takes 5 hours, departing around 7:30 AM, with a memorable crossing of the equator along the way and views of Mount Kenya in the distance. You typically arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive where you may spot your first rhino.
: The Ol' Pejeta Conservancy is a protected area set up for endangered species. For rhino lovers, this is a pure heaven on earth with a population of more than 100 black rhinos, almost 40 southern white rhinos AND the last two remaining northern white rhinos worldwide. These white rhinos can even be visited up close! Besides rhinos, the conservancy hosts endangered species like the African wild dog, the oryx, Jackson's hartebeest and Grévy’s zebra, and houses a sanctuary for abused or orphaned chimpanzees.

Day 3 - 4

Drive from Ol' Pejeta Conservancy to Samburu National Reserve

The road north from Ol' Pejeta's green Laikipia highlands takes 4 hours, crossing the equator and descending into increasingly arid, sun-baked terrain that signals the beginning of Kenya's northern frontier. Samburu's rugged, semi-desert landscape (home to rare species found nowhere else in Kenya) feels like a different country entirely by the time you arrive at Samburu National Reserve.

Activities:

: Samburu National Reserve is a great place the first half of your safari adventure, with a dry semidesert and savannah landscape that allows for far sights and lots of animals. It is home to the Northern Five also called the Samburu Special Five - five rare animals that can only be spotted together in Samburu. The central Ewaso Nyiro River makes for a great spot to see all these animals, while just outside the park you can meet the fascinating Samburu tribe, and observe their special way of living.

Day 5

Drive from Samburu National Reserve to Solio Ranch Conservancy

The drive from Samburu to Solio Ranch Conservancy takes just over 3 hours and passes through shifting scenery, from Samburu’s dry, rugged land into the greener highlands of Central Kenya. On arrival, you have lunch at your lodge if staying outside the conservancy, giving you time to settle in before an afternoon game drive. If you prefer a longer game drive, you can request a packed lunch in advance through your travel consultant.

: The Solio Ranch Conservancy is a privately owned and very special wildlife sanctuary. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, the former ranch is dedicated to saving and protecting rhinos in Kenya. Enjoy thrilling game drives, guided walks and serene picnics amidst the picturesque scenery and not only marvel at the grey giants, but also animals like buffalos, zebras, giraffes, elands, oryx, impala, waterbucks, Thomson’s gazelles and warthogs.

Day 6

Drive from Solio Conservancy to Lake Naivasha

You travel for 4 hours through highland farming areas and broad views of the Great Rift Valley before reaching the papyrus-lined shores of Lake Naivasha. At dusk, hippos often graze near the water, and fish eagles fly overhead. It feels calm and slow, a clear contrast to the more intense wildlife experience at Solio.

Activities:

: Lake Naivasha is a stunning freshwater lake in Kenya's Rift Valley, sitting 1,884 meters above sea level and covering 139 square kilometres. It's home to hippos, diverse fish species, and over 400 bird species, including the iconic African fish eagle, pelicans, and herons, making it a paradise for wildlife and birdwatching enthusiasts. Visitors can take boat rides to glide past hippos and explore the lake's rich ecosystem up close. Don't miss Crescent Island, a scenic peninsula reachable by boat. There, you can walk alongside giraffes, warthogs, and buffalo.
: Have you ever wanted to pass floating hippos by boat? Seek no longer: during a boat safari on Lake Naivasha this is exactly what will happen. You will pass between huge groups of hippos while seeing eagles and cormorants flying above you, and admiring giraffes on the shore. The safari on board a small motorized boat takes about 60 minutes and ends on the beautiful Crescent Island, where you will continue with a stunning walking safari between zebras, giraffes and wildebeests.

Day 7 - 8

En route to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve

Lovers of road trips get their money’s worth today, as you drive to what might be the most famous safari destination in the world. If you decide to sleep at the Zebra Plains Safari Camp today (our silver accommodation), you will end the day on a high note with a walking safari. If you opt for our gold or platinum accommodation, however, you skip the walking safari but sleep right in the heart of the Masai Mara.

: As the Zebra Plains camp lies close to the Masai Mara National Reserve, their walking safaris are next level. While walking with two Maasai (one armed for protection) and an experienced guide, this is your chance to get closer than ever to giraffes, zebras, impala and all the other animals in this area. What’s more, the Maasai will teach you how to identify and differentiate wildlife footprints and plants, leaving you feeling like a true nature warrior in your own right!
: Departing around 7:30 AM, this six‑hour drive from Lake Naivasha to the Masai Mara National Reserve winds through the Great Rift Valley’s dramatic escarpments before opening into the sweeping plains of the Mara. Wildlife often begins to appear as you near the reserve, with arrival timed perfectly for a late lunch.
: The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most famous places for safari worldwide. Located 270 kilometres west of Nairobi, this is one of the biggest game reserves in Africa. It extends over 1,500 km² and has more than 400 species of birds and no less than 95 species of mammals. Big cats are frequently spotted here, and this is THE place to watch the world-famous Great Migration between August and October, with its vast herds of wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River.

Stretching along Kenya's Indian Ocean coast like a ribbon of brilliant white, Diani Beach is a gorgeous setting for a beach holiday. Against the backdrop of forests echoing with the sounds of wildlife, it offers clear blue waters, white palm fringed beaches, and many watersports activities. Here you can swim along sandbanks, snorkel among colourful reefs, dive in deep sea canyons, or try out kitesurfing or supping. And for those in need of a dash of culture, the vibrant city of Mombasa is not far away!

: Chale Island is one of Kenya's precious jewels, a true paradise with amazingly white beaches and a crystal blue ocean, just off the country's south coast. This small, tropical island is also known as a sacred kaya, one of the places of ancient worship you find along Kenya's coast, which makes it extra special. What's more, it has rich and diverse oceanic underwater life and offers a plethora of water activities. Lovers of water sports, diving and beach will feel right at home here, especially when staying in The Sands Hotel - the island's only (!) and beautiful beach resort.
