Roaring into this month’s spotlight from Botswana, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Lesego – one of the passionate experts behind Africa Safari Trips.
Our monthly Get to Know the Faces Behind Africa Safari Trips series takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who make every safari truly unforgettable. From travel tips to insider stories, this is your chance to discover the faces who make your African adventure so unique.

My name is Lesego Alexander. I’ve been born and raised in Botswana and currently live in Maun. As a tour consultant at Africa Safari Trips, I help clients with planning and booking safari experiences, provide destination information, and handle customer inquiries. In short, I ensure that our guests have a smooth and memorable travel experience, from the first chat to their flight back home.
The Okavango Delta. It’s a special place because of its incredible wildlife, peaceful scenery, and unique safari experiences. You can explore it by mokoro (a traditional canoe), in a traditional 4×4 or on foot. And of course you can see animals crossing the channels, which is always fascinating. With each season, the Delta feels different, and it offers a genuine connection to nature which is hard to match.
Fascinating animals, stunning landscapes and a hint of adventure: Lesego’s favourite tours show you the real Botswana.

I’d recommend a safari that combines the best of Botswana. You start in Maun and then head to the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve. From there you go to Khwai Community Concession and end your trip in Chobe National Park and Savuti Marsh. Not only can you see all kinds of landscapes, but also countless animals, the Big Five included.
A mix of wildlife, culture and nature: Lesego’s favourite activities have it all.
In Khwai I once watched a kill by African wild dogs. The camp had gone completely quiet, and then suddenly a herd of antelopes galloped by, followed by the wild dogs. One was caught and eaten right in front of us. It’s harsh, of course, but that’s also nature.
Another unforgettable experience happened in Savuti, when I watched lions interacting with elephants at a waterhole during the dry season. The tension, the dust, and the sounds made it a thrilling experience.
I still want to see the Okavango Panhandle, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. You can find traditional villages and the Tsodilo Hills there, so there’s plenty of culture with ancient traditions and rock art. The serene waterways and greenery around are home to plenty of wildlife, including hippos and crocodiles. It’s also a paradise for birdwatchers.

What makes Botswana special are the wildlife encounters. They often feel raw and uncrowded; sometimes it’s just you, your vehicle, and the animals, with no other car around for miles. Every safari is different, and you never know what to expect. Many times, the sightings you didn’t plan to have become the highlights of your trip. Also, travel with patience and stay present in every moment. God resides in Botswana!
Surrounded by nature and the sound of silence: Lesego’s favourite lodges stick out with unique designs and excellent service.
