Endless salt pans, bushmen and quirky meerkats
Extend your Botswana adventure by adding six days in the wondrous Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pans National Park, and see the massive salt pans that make this area worth a visit. This surreal part of the world, with both the massive dry salt pans and the winding Boteti River, offers rich, diverse wildlife that you can see on exhilarating game drives. The stars in this story? Little and quirky meerkats who have made the desert their playground. And not only is the wildlife fascinating, but so is the culture. During a walk with the San Bushmen, the oldest continuous people in the world, you learn more about the unique flora and fauna of the pans, and, of course, about their ancient traditions.
You start near the Boteti River, then, on day 3, you make a small detour to the neighbouring and stunning Nxai Pans National Park with its numerous Baines baobabs. The day after, you fly to the Makgadikgadi salt pans, see the meerkats, visit the bushmen and sleep outside, right under the stars! Thanks to the lack of light pollution, the night sky here is something else. Get wrapped up in the unparalleled silence, the sheer endlessness of the plains and see the earth’s curvature at the end of the horizon. What a magical addition to your holiday in Botswana!
Upon arrival in each lodge, you can pick two activities to do in this destination (included in your package). They are carried out by the lodge, and you will be joined by other guests, unless you book a private excursion. The links in the daily outlines below give you an idea of what’s possible.
