San Camp

Out on the edge of the Nwetwe Pan, San Camp feels worlds away, where silence stretches as far as the eye can see. As part of the vast Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, this seasonal, solar-powered retreat keeps things intimate with just seven white canvas tents spaced across the open flats. Each tent leans into a 1940s safari style, with four-poster beds, Persian rugs, and private en-suite bathrooms, plus outdoor bucket showers best saved for sunset. Shaded verandas face the pans, while a central tea tent and small natural history museum add character between activities. A plunge pool under canvas offers a cool pause, and meals are served in the dining tent or out under the stars, with a focus on fresh, well-prepared dishes. Quiet corners like the yoga pavilion and open lounge areas keep the pace slow and the setting front and centre.
