The Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary is a rhino breeding sanctuary with approximately 100 rhinos in Tsavo West National Park, whose goal it is to increase the Kenyan rhino population and slowly release them back into the wild of Tsavo. It was established in 1989 after the rhino population in Tsavo West had declined from 20,000 in 1940 to only 20 by the end of the eighties. It’s worth the extra drive to visit this 90-square-kilometre sanctuary, as this is the only place in Tsavo to see this beautiful giants with waterholes where they come to drink.
