Leaving Mombasa behind, you head out on a 4-hour drive to Ngutuni Conservancy. The road gradually trades coastal lowlands for open savanna dotted with baobab trees. As you near the sanctuary, the surroundings feel more remote, with wide views across the plains and the chance of spotting wildlife even before you arrive.

Tsavo West National Park is a park that shows a diverse and remarkable nature with, for example, the Mzima Springs, the Shetani Lava Flows and the Chaimu crater. With its 9,065 square kilometres, this is one of Kenya's largest national parks, and four of the Big Five can be seen roaming freely here. Besides, you fairly easily spot regulars like giraffes, zebras, antelopes, gerenuks and many different species of birds, all between the green hills, acacia forests, savannah, natural springs and huge lava rocks from nearby volcanos.

The drive from National Park to Tsavo East National Park unfolds across rugged volcanic hills and lava flows before easing into the wide, open savanna. It’s a 4‑hour journey that steadily transitions from dramatic highlands to the arid plains, with wildlife and acacia trees marking the way. Together, the two parks form Kenya’s largest wilderness, and the road between them feels like a safari in itself.

This five‑hour drive south from Tsavo East National Park heads toward the coast, passing through Voi before the highway descends into the humid coastal lowlands. The Likoni Ferry crossing adds a memorable final chapter - a short sail over the Kilindini Channel before Diani’s white sands and swaying palms deliver the perfect safari finale.
