Stargazing with an astronomer –andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge

TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice

If you like what you see during the day, you’ll just love Namibia after dark! Far from towns and artificial light, and with the neighbouring NamibRand Nature Reserve being recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve, Sossusvlei Desert Lodge enjoys some of the clearest and darkest night skies on earth. On select evenings, guests have the opportunity to join a visiting astronomer at the lodge’s observatory, equipped with a computerised telescope, for a guided journey through the stars. But on any clear night you can simply step outside on your own, give your eyes a few minutes to adjust and watch the sky gradually fill with more stars than you probably realised were up there. Feel the cool desert air on your skin as you identify the Southern Cross and other satellite constellations of the Milky Way, and absorb the profound silence.
