Set off early to the Klip River Valley, where towering cliffs, volcanic basalt ridges and rocky plains provide a spectacular backdrop for one of Namibia’s most exciting wildlife experiences. This is not your typical game drive: the search for desert-adapted black rhino involves both driving and walking, with experienced guides and trackers reading the landscape for clues that might reveal where these elusive animals have been. Here, the rhinos roam completely free, which makes finding one all the more exciting – but also means sightings can never be guaranteed. When fresh signs lead you to a rhino, the final approach is made on foot, keeping a respectful distance while you observe this precious creature.
