The Lüderitzbucht Museum on Dias Street traces Lüderitz’s diamond-mining past, including the history of the restricted Sperrgebiet and the people who worked there. Exhibits also cover the indigenous communities of the coast, the German colonial period and the plants and animals of the Namibian shoreline. The museum is within walking distance of the harbour and old town, and a visit takes about an hour. Entrance fees are paid on site, so carry Namibian dollars or South African rand.
