Well-used elephant trails wind between the canvas tents of Chobe Under Canvas, a semi-permanent camp in the northern reaches of Chobe National Park, within driving distance of the Chobe River. The set-up looks basic at first, with relatively simple tents spread over a bushy terrain. But simplicity makes luxury here, as each of the 5 tents comes with a comfortable double bed, an en-suite bathroom featuring a flush toilet, and a steaming hot bucket shower. What’s more, meals are cooked over coals in a small setting and shared around a blazing fire, while a private butler handles the details in between – making this one of those special camps where the lack of mod cons somehow feels like the whole point.
