In Botswana, the journey is very much part of the adventure – and sometimes even an unexpected game drive in itself. Throughout your trip, you’ll be transferred between airports, lodges and different safari regions by our trusted Africa Safari Trips drivers. These are different from the guides who accompany you on your daily game drives, as the lodges operate their own dedicated safari vehicles and expert ranger teams for wildlife activities.
We use a variety of cars for our transfers. In short, the bumpier the road, the tougher the vehicle.

For game drives, the lodges provide sturdy but open safari jeeps with a top roof. This allows you to make the perfect picture while sitting high and dry above the savannah. Please note that you might share the safari vehicle with other guests.
Mokoros are traditional wooden boats used by people living in the deltas. Originally used for transport and fishing, these boats are now popular for beautiful safaris on the water. Gliding silently over the water, they can follow in the path of hippos and elephants. In other areas motorboats are used for safaris on water, allowing you to cover bigger areas.
For transfers between camps and lodges throughout Botswana, we usually work with trusted regional airlines such as Mack Air and Major Blue Air. These specialist safari carriers provide convenient access to some of the country’s most remote and spectacular wilderness areas, allowing you to reach places that would otherwise require many hours of driving. The aircraft used are typically light safari planes such as the reliable Cessna Grand Caravan EX seating up to 11 passengers. It’s specifically designed for operations into remote airstrips and offers a comfortable, low-altitude flying experience with fantastic views of the landscapes below.
In both transfer cars and safari jeeps, water and soft drinks are always available. Staying connected in remote places can be a bit challenging in Botswana, but our professional transfer drivers use reliable communication systems and are in constant contact with our office when taking you from one park to the next.
If you want to stay online and reachable while on the road, you have several options (even though the connection strength might vary per area):
Because game drives and other excursions are joined with other guests, most lodges apply a minimum age of 6 years to limit nuisance to other guests. However, it’s possible for families travelling with younger children to book a private game drive (supplement applies), allowing for a more flexible experience tailored entirely to your family’s pace and preferences. Please keep in mind that baby seats are not readily available in Botswana, though. You might have to carry your own when travelling with small children.
