Roaring into this month’s spotlight from Kenya, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Marta – one of the passionate experts behind Africa Safari Trips.
Our monthly Get to Know the Faces Behind Africa Safari Trips series takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who make every safari truly unforgettable. From travel tips to insider stories, this is your chance to discover the faces who make your African adventure so unique.
My name is Marta. I was born in Spain but grew up in France and the Netherlands. I first came to Kenya on safari in 2013 and immediately fell in love with the country. Just a year later, I packed my bags and made the big move! I’ve lived in Nairobi for eight years, Diani for two, and since last year, I’ve been enjoying life on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
As Team Leader Sales for the Dutch team at Africa Safari Trips, I love guiding my team to create dreamy itineraries that turn our clients’ safari wishes into reality.
The Big North is my personal slice of heaven. The endless, rugged landscapes constantly shift in color depending on the clouds and the time of day. The beautiful Ewaso Nyiro River is always alive with elephants bathing and playing, and sometimes you might even catch a lion cooling off in the water.
Samburu National Reserve and the surrounding conservancies are simply breathtaking. The wildlife here is so unique they even have their own “Special Five.” And the Samburu people, known as the “butterflies of the North,” are unforgettable—their colorful attire and beautiful songs bring so much spirit to the region.
I’d recommend starting with the Masai Mara in Kenya or the Serengeti in Tanzania. They’re iconic destinations with an incredible density of wildlife, perfect for first-timers. And if you time your trip right, you can witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration.
But if you’re looking for something less touristic and more off the beaten path, I’d suggest a conservancy-based safari in one of the beautiful conservancies around Laikipia, Kenya. These areas focus on sustainability and supporting local communities, offering an experience that feels both meaningful and exclusive.
I’ve been lucky to have so many incredible wildlife encounters over the years – from standing face to face with elephants to changing tires in front of mating lions or spending an afternoon beneath a tree with a leopard resting overhead.
But the moment that stands out most was meeting the chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge, Uganda. I’ve never felt such awe and curiosity at the same time. One chimp started climbing out of the gorge, walked right past me, and then settled just a few feet away to eat leaves. I’ll never forget that encounter.
There isn’t a place in Kenya I haven’t visited, but Uganda still has a few spots on my bucket list! Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest seem like the ultimate adventure destinations. I love the idea of falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle at night.
Patience is key! You’re in the tropics and on holiday – things move at a different pace here. Take the opportunity to slow down, embrace the moment, and let the magic of Africa unfold around you.
After reading all this (well done btw), you might say, “Well that’s all great, but why should we travel with you guys?” That’s why!
