Roaring into this month’s spotlight from Kenya, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Elisa – one of the passionate experts behind Africa Safari Trips.
Our monthly Get to Know the Faces Behind Africa Safari Trips series takes you behind the scenes to meet the people who make every safari truly unforgettable. From travel tips to insider stories, this is your chance to discover the faces who make your African adventure so unique.

My name is Elisa. I’m Italian and I have been living on the Kenyan coast for the past 22 years. However, through family, friends and a previous job in a French travel agency I have a deep connection to France, too. In 2000, I came to Kenya for the first time and also experienced my very first safari – a life-changing moment. I instantly fell in love with the landscapes, the wildlife, and the spirit of this country. That initial spark drew me back again and again for more safaris until I decided in 2004 to move here permanently.
Since then, I have built my career in the hospitality and tourism industry, working with hotels and tour companies, and dedicating myself to sharing the beauty of Kenya with travelers from around the world.
As a travel consultant and team leader for the French market at Africa Safari Trips, I do what I love most: designing journeys that are more than a mere vacation. I want my clients to discover the magic of Africa and give them experiences that last a lifetime.
I love the whole country because of its unique diversity of landscapes and wildlife. If I had to single out one area, it would be the Rift Valley and the lakes, a region of dramatic scenery, vibrant birdlife, and stunning ecosystems. Amboseli comes a close second with its endless plains, large elephant herds, and iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Immersed in scenic landscapes, close to fascinating wildlife: Elisa’s favourite tours take you to nature’s wonders.

If you come to Kenya for the first time, I would recommend visiting the Masai Mara, Amboseli National Park, and at least one of the beautiful lakes like Lake Nakuru or Naivasha with their colourful birdlife. Even though Masai Mara and Amboseli are very popular tourist destinations, they are worth a visit – there’s a reason why they are so famous. Here you can experience an African safari just like you’ve always imagined it. Lions pussyfooting around your jeep, enormous elephant herds taking your breath away and countless antelopes roaming the seemingly endless plains. Two highlights: the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara and the Supertuskers in Amboseli.
If you want to travel to Uganda, you should definitely visit the chimpanzees during a trekking tour as well as the mountain gorillas – a humbling experience that will leave you in awe. Add one or two relaxing days at The Haven Eco River Lodge in Jinja and fall asleep to the sound of the gushing Nile River (almost) next to you.
Authenticity at heart: experience Elisa’s favourite activities and get to know the real Kenya.
I once spent some relaxing days at the Voi Wildlife Lodge and between many memorable moments, this one definitely stood out. Just in front of the lodge, we saw elephants playing hide-and-seek in a waterhole. They kept diving underwater, sometimes only their trunk showed a little bit. Then they surfaced again to find their friends and keep playing. It was hilarious, and the memory still puts a smile on my face today.
I simply love animals. That’s also why my husband and I have some of our own. Like Margherita, our little cow.
I would love to visit Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda, where the Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge creating the dramatic waterfall. In Kenya, I want to see Aberdare Forest in Aberdare National Park. It’s a green paradise for rare animals like the bongo or the elusive black leopard and home to spectacular waterfalls and beautiful tree hotels.

Pack sunscreen, a hat, a scarf and a sweater since it can be cold in the evenings and mornings. Also, if you go on a trekking tour in Uganda, bring adequate rain gear to be ready for whatever the weather gods have in store for you that day.
Most importantly, though, be open for an adventure full of surprises because the wild is unpredictable. By the way, these are accessible to everyone! My dad is 85 years old and has limited mobility. We’ve been on around 20 safaris in Kenya together and just did a balloon safari – it’s all possible and I’m happy to help.
Excellent service, high-quality food and authentic vibes: feel at home in Elisa’s favourite lodges.
After reading all this (well done, btw), you might say, “Well that’s all great, but why should we travel with you guys?” That’s why!
