Game drive at Mahango Game Reserve (Bwabwata National Park)

For your game drive in the Mahango Game Reserve, you enter through the gate south of Divundu, where you pay the entry fee for a 24-hour permit. You pick up a park map at the gate, then explore either the shorter two-wheel-drive route along the river or the longer four-wheel-drive track through the sandy omurambas. Drive early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when elephants, buffalo and hippos gather near the water, and you can look out for sable, roan, tsessebe and red lechwe. Take your time exploring at your own pace and make sure to bring water and/or snacks – there are no shops, fuel or accommodations inside the reserve, so stock up in Divundu beforehand.
