Visit the national parks nestled between Kenya’s coastal town Mombasa and its capital Nairobi and discover lots of wildlife at relatively small distances!

You’ll start your adventure at the world-famous Amboseli National Park. Huge herds of elephants rule this smaller but beautiful park in front of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak (great pics guaranteed!). On the wide savannahs of Tsavo West National Park you’ll see the gentle giants once more, together with the rest of the Big Five and many other famous African animals. Your next stop takes you to the green mountain range of Taita Hills, where bush elephants roam, and to the smaller but equally impressive Lumo Conservancy which offers everything you’d want from a safari – including night game drives!

: Many people travelling to the African continent have questions about safety. Is Kenya safe to travel to? Our answer is clear: YES!

Kenya is definitely a safe country to visit, especially for people going on organised game drives with private guides as you will do with us. There are definitely some places to avoid in big cities like Nairobi or Mombasa, but – as with all big cities – by taking some precautions, you’ll be fine. We advise, for example, to leave the hotel at night with a driver and not to go strolling around alone. Also be aware not to wear big and visible jewellery, and keep an eye on your valuables.

Discover the iconic Amboseli National Park

For no less than two days, you explore magical Amboseli National Park. Fantastic views on Mount Kilimanjaro await you, with animals grazing in front of it. And if you stay at the Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp, you can admire amazing savannah views at sunset - sundowner in hand and all!

: After driving towards Amboseli National Park today, you end your day in style with a classic safari sundowner. Upon arrival in the lodge and after freshening up, a guide accompanies you to a special sundowner spot. The short walk over the savannah leads to a table and chairs, glasses and drinks, snacks and, of course, a view to die for. With some luck, you see the Amboseli animals passing while the sun slowly sets in the most beautiful glow over the long savannah grasses...
: A 4.5-hour drive southeast of Nairobi sees the city’s urban energy fade into wide Maasai plains and open sky. On clear days, the first glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the treeline signals your arrival in one of Africa’s most iconic safari landscapes…a moment that often stops conversation mid-sentence.
: Discover the mesmerizing Amboseli National Park, a true wildlife haven at the foot of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Drive from Amboseli National Park to Tsavo West National Park

Departing Amboseli with Kilimanjaro fading in the rearview mirror, this 3.5-hour drive northwest cuts through open Maasai plains and dry acacia scrubland before the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Tsavo West begin to take shape on the horizon. It's a seamless transition between two of Kenya's most iconic parks, the road itself feeling like a natural bridge between elephant country and the rugged, lava-sculpted wilderness that lies ahead.

: Tsavo West National Park is a park that shows a diverse and remarkable nature with, for example, the Mzima Springs, the Shetani Lava Flows and the Chaimu crater. With its 9,065 square kilometres, this is one of Kenya's largest national parks, and four of the Big Five can be seen roaming freely here. Besides, you fairly easily spot regulars like giraffes, zebras, antelopes, gerenuks and many different species of birds, all between the green hills, acacia forests, savannah, natural springs and huge lava rocks from nearby volcanos.

Drive from Tsavo West National Park to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Lumo conservancy

Soroi Cheetah Tented Camp - Lumo Conservancy Tsavo

Just 3 hours separate Tsavo West's volcanic wilderness from the quietly spectacular Taita Hills, as the road climbs gently into a landscape of ancient forests and sweeping savanna views. The Taita and LUMO Conservancy feels like a well-kept secret: wilder and less visited than its famous neighbours, with big game and remarkable birdlife rewarding those who choose to visit.

Activities:

: The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and LUMO Conservancy are two smaller parks between the giants Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Park. They offer unique game drives at night and, due to their proximity, they can be easily combined. During a safari here expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and antilopes, among other species, as well as over 300 bird species. In the nearby Taita Hills you can also spot Kenya’s rarest (and most threatened) birds: the Taita Apalis, the Taita White-eye and Taita Thrush.

Day 6

Drive from Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Lumo conservancy to Nairobi

Heading north from the Taita Hills, the route passes through Voi before joining the Mombasa highway. The landscape slowly shifts from rough, dry terrain to greener highlands as Nairobi comes nearer. The almost 7-hour drive moves through clear stages (scrubland, farmland, then the growing edges of the capital), making the trip feel like a steady transition through very different worlds.

: This is your last day! Unfortunately, it's time to drive back to Nairobi to catch your flight home from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Sad to leave...? Then don't worry! We can easily add a few days of safari to your holiday or a few days on one of Kenya's stunning beaches along the coast!
