Elephant Havens near the Okavango Delta is Botswana’s only elephant orphanage, dedicated to rescuing orphaned and abandoned calves and easing human-elephant conflict. Caring for young elephants is no small feat. They are incredibly vulnerable and require bottle-feeding every three hours, along with constant emotional support; caretakers stay by their side day and night. The ultimate goal is to raise and gradually reintroduce them to the wild. Join a three-hour tour starting at 9 AM for a behind-the-scenes experience. Expect a close but respectful encounter with the curious youngsters, learn about their behaviour, watch them being bottle-fed and join them in the mud wallow and swimming area… if they’re in the mood, of course, because they do have a mind of their own!
