Travellers Rest Hotel is one of Uganda’s oldest lodges, situated just outside Kisoro with fantastic views of the Virunga volcanoes. There are several impressive guests on the hotel’s historical guest list – the famous Dian Fossey is even said to have called this place her second home! Located so close to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the hotel has a history in gorilla conservation, and after it was built in 1955 it quickly became a meeting place for gorilla lovers. The hotel offers 12 cosy ensuite rooms, all uniquely decorated with Congolese art and fitted with modern amenities. The restaurant serves a delicious four course set menu with lots of produce from this fertile region in a dining room full of art, and the bar in the tranquil garden is the perfect place for sundowners.
