A typical day of safari in Botswana

More  than just a game drive

Life in Botswana is more than just game drives when you are on safari!

Here, you choose 2 excursions per day from the lodge’s safari menu (included in the price of your stay), which typically last 2 to 3 hours each. They can be done in the morning, afternoon, and sometimes at night, and usually you pick the ones you prefer upon arrival at your lodge. Depending on your choice, you might:

  • Go on a classic game drive
  • Glide silently through the delta in a mokoro canoe
  • Explore the waterways on a motorboat
  • Join a guided bush walk
  • Visit a local community for a cultural encounter

From sunrise to sunset

Safari days in Botswana tend to begin just before sunrise, when the bush slowly wakes up, and wildlife is at its most active. After a healthy breakfast, you head out in a safari vehicle shared with other guests to explore Botswana’s extraordinary wilderness at your own rhythm. This is the time of a new golden light, fresh tracks in the sand and the possibility of spotting predators before they retire for the day.

Around midday, you return to camp for lunch, perhaps a refreshing dip in the pool or a well-deserved siesta during the warmer hours of the day. Then, later in the afternoon (usually around 4 PM), adventure calls again. Afternoon drives are famous for golden and pink safari light and magical sundowners if you so wish, and conclude with dinner back at the lodge. Late evening drives (after dinner) reveal a completely different side of the bush – think genets, porcupines, owls or even the elusive aardvark under a sky bursting with stars.

Back at camp, the day ends around the fire pit with safari stories and the sounds of the African night all around you. And then, just before you know it, sunrise arrives… and it all starts again.

Park rules

Park entry fees in Botswana are valid for 24 hours and allow ONE entry only. Furthermore, game drives are permitted from 6 AM (sunrise) to 6 PM (sunset), and guests are expected to be in the lodge outside those hours. Once you exit the park, your ticket expires.

When travelling with us, you hardly have to worry about any of this. Your park entrance is always included in your stay, and your guides know exactly what you’re allowed to do and by what time you need to be back in the lodge. You just sit back, relax and enjoy all the natural beauty this country has to offer!
