10 days Kenya: safari around Mombasa & beach

Starting in Mombasa, you’ll visit the four national parks closest to this unique coastal town and end your holiday at the beach.

The first two stops of your adventure will be the green hills of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and the community-led Lumo Conservancy. Here you’ll make your first wildlife encounters – from elephants and lions to zebras and giraffes. With big smiles you’ll then head to Tsavo West National Park to discover all of its hidden and less hidden gems. In Amboseli National Park you can marvel at huge herds of elephants (with a little luck you’ll see some supertuskers) roaming the grounds in front of Mount Kilimanjaro – motives you have to capture for eternity! The last two safari-days you’ll spend searching for the Big Five in the immense Tsavo East National Park, before you’ll relax on one of Africa’s most beautiful beaches – Diani Beach – for four whole days. Bliss!

Day 1

Arrival in Mombasa

As you step out of Moi International Airport, your personal Africa Safari Trips guide greets you with a big smile: 'Karibu Kenya – welcome to Kenya!' The guide takes you straight to your hotel, while you take in the first images of the vibrant city of Mombasa. The next day, the guide takes you on an exclusive, private safari that allows you to travel at your own pace. Enjoy the luxury of your private safari jeep and take the liberty to stop and watch the animals as long as you like!

Day 2

Taita Hills & Lumo Conservancy

The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Lumo Conservancy are two smaller parks between giants Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Park. The 110-square-kilometre sanctuary of Taita Hills belongs to the oldest mountain ranges of Africa, boasting many endemic bird species, such as the Taita thrush, and larger wildlife such as bush elephants, leopards, buffaloes, cheetahs and lions. The Lumo Conservancy is community-run and can therefore allow for night game drives – an amazing experience!

Day 3

Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park is a park that shows a diverse and remarkable nature with, for example, the Mzima Springs, the Shetani Lava Flows and the Chaimu crater. With its 9,065 square kilometres, this is one of Kenya's largest national parks, and four of the Big Five can be seen roaming freely here. Besides, you fairly easily spot regulars like giraffes, zebras, antelopes, gerenuks and many different species of birds, all between the green hills, acacia forests, savannah, natural springs and huge lava rocks from nearby volcanos.

Day 4

Amboseli National Park

Discover the mesmerizing Amboseli National Park, a true wildlife haven at the foot of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. The national park on the border with Tanzania offers sweeping savannahs, impressive lava rocks and shimmering swamps, creating an ideal habitat for large herds of elephants, graceful lions, a staggering variety of bird species and many more animals. Shoot them all (with your camera, of course!) with the mighty Kili in the background – an amazing sight!

Day 5 - 6

Tsavo East National Park

With over 13,000 square kilometres, Tsavo East National Park is huge and impressive, and, since it was founded in 1948, one of Kenya's oldest national parks. Cruise the outstretched savannah of the Yatta Plateau with its large groups of elephants and get to see an amazing amount of animals; four of the Big Five (minus rhinos) together with species like dik-diks, zebras, giraffes, yellow baboons, cheetahs, African wild dogs, elands, gazelles, gerenuks, hyenas, jackals, and over 500 species of birds.

Day 7

Drive from Tsavo to Diani

Drive in approximately five hours from Tsavo to Diani Beach, where a tropical paradise awaits you! Over the next few days, you can discover white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs. Into adventure? Discover the various nearby sandbanks, go snorkelling in a marine park, take a board to go supping or head out for a day of deep sea fishing. Into culture? Discover the nearby city of Mombasa with its vibrant culture. A better end to a perfect holiday is hardly imaginable!

Day 8 - 9

Diani Beach

Stretching along Kenya's Indian Ocean coast like a ribbon of brilliant white, Diani Beach is a gorgeous setting for a beach holiday. Against the backdrop of forests echoing with the sounds of wildlife, it offers clear blue waters, white palm fringed beaches, and many watersports activities. Here you can swim along sandbanks, snorkel among colourful reefs, dive in deep sea canyons, or try out kitesurfing or supping. And for those in need of a dash of culture, the vibrant city of Mombasa is not far away!

Day 10

Flight home from Mombasa (not included in the price)

This is your last day! Unfortunately, our driver will have to take you to Mombasa to catch your flight home from Moi International Airport. Sad to leave...? Then don't worry! We can still add a few more days on those beautiful beaches or even add a few exciting safari days to your holiday!
