Wine tasting in South Africa’s highest winery – Cederberg

Wine tasting in South Africa's highest winery - Cederberg

At over 1,000 metres above sea level, the Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest winery. With its cool climate, clean air, and diverse soils, winemaker David Nieuwoudt crafts bold wines that reflect the dramatic mountain landscape. The tasting room (open Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4:30 PM) features a pebble wall built from local river stones and a glass wall showcasing the atmospheric barrel maturation cellar. Insider tip: Don’t miss the Ghost Corner range, flagship wines inspired by the extreme coastal area around Cape Agulhas and Elim, known locally as Spookdraai (ghost corner, literally!) – where many ships have been wrecked and the ghosts of sailors who perished through the years can still be seen wandering the wild waters. Or, well, that’s what the legend says!
