On your way to Tulbagh, it’s worth it to stop in Riebeeck Castle, as it’s one of the most picturesque villages in South Africa (and no, there is no castle here!). Stroll around in the quaint little village centre, visit some of the artisan shops and small boutiques, and have coffee with a view at the iconic Royal Hotel (one of the country’s oldest hotels with a stunning wraparound verandah) or Eight Feet Village, a wooden viewing deck on top of the mountain with panoramic vistas over the region. Or skip the coffee and taste one of the renowned Swartland wines, as in South Africa, it’s never too early to drink wine!
