Additional information

The Karura Forest covers an area of 2,700 acres and allows you to experience nature in all its diversity. Visit the 15-metre high waterfall, an old incinerator that was used by the central bank to burn discarded money until the mid-1990s, the abandoned Lily Lake quarry pond or the Mau Mau caves, which were once used as a hiding place by freedom fighters during the struggle for independence.

Fifty kilometres of hiking and cycling trails lead you through dense forest, past three rivers, eucalyptus trees, bamboo forests and onto open meadows and clearings. The wetlands attract many birds and monkeys and also duikers can be found here. There is a small café near the Limuru Road Gate for when you get hungry, or you can take a picnic with you during this excursion into the green lungs of Nairobi.
