Just outside Johannesburg and Pretoria, in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind, lies the Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve. Here, more than thirty animal species roam freely – from Kruger lion and white rhino to cheetah, hippo and over twenty antelope species. Rare sightings include wild dog and the majestic Cape vulture, best admired from a dedicated hide. The reserve is yours to explore; take the wheel on well-kept tracks (a regular car will do, except for a few 4×4 routes), and your self-drive adventure is included in the entrance fee. Would you rather join an experienced ranger on a guided game drive, even at night? That’s also possible but it qualifies as an extra activity – contact your travel consultant to book. Whichever route you choose, this is wildlife with a touch of world heritage.
