Just above the city of Hermanus, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve has found a cosy spot nestled in the Kleinrivier Mountains. Stretched over 1,800 hectares and at 824 metres above sea level, this piece of land is a safe haven for rare plants and wildlife. During a guided tour, you learn more about the history of early people groups, medicinal plants and rare flowers. With some luck you see baboons, mongoose, dassies, klipspringers, Cape grysboks or Grey rheboks. Should you go for a hike between June and December, keep your eyes peeled for whales roaming the ocean around the coast. A guided walk takes around two to three hours, should be arranged online in advance and is more advisable between January and June.
