Flower Farm Tour – Lake Naivasha

Visiting a flower farm is a great opportunity to learn about the process of growing, harvesting, and exporting flowers. There are about 220 flower farms in Kenya, and around 70 of them are located near Lake Naivasha.

De Ruiter Innovations is a pioneer in the rose-breeding industry and Kenya’s leading cut flower farm, which exports its products to the European Union and Dutch markets. The company was founded in 1914 in Hazerswoude in the Netherlands. They originally started as a cut flower production farm and during the war, they ventured into rose breeding. They are also the oldest breeders who ventured abroad and to date, the company has offices with breeding and testing locations all over the globe. In Kenya, 95 hectares are dedicated to the Rhodos Rose alone!

The process of breeding is very thorough and meticulous – did you know it takes about 7 years for a new rose to come to the market? Especially children will be captivated by the many vibrant colors and floral scents, and up to age 10, their entrance is free of charge, provided that they are accompanied by their parents.
