Deep sea fishing on the Indian Ocean

Kenya allows for some good places to go deep sea fishing. Diani Beach, on the south coast, is one of them. With this half day trip you leave before sunrise on a 22 ft boat to head into open waters, in search of some kingfish or barracuda.

Additional information

From Diani a motorised boat takes you out into the open waters. Here you can take your fishing rod and aim for the big ones that live in these waters, such as kingfish, swordfish and barracuda. They usually live at 30 meters (100 feet) below the surface in these parts, so that’s where you will be fishing at. Once caught, the fish are usually released again, since this trip is mostly about the thrill and adrenaline of catching a big fish. Only what is eaten will be taken back to shore.

Best periods
July to October is the best period because many fish come close to shore to feed. Black marlin, wahoo, kingfish, and yellowfins are all on the bite during this period. October through December is reserved for sailfish, followed by the marlin season from January to March. April to July is slow for saltwater fishing and best to avoid.
This trip takes half a day. Only bring your sunscreen, sunglasses and a good mood. Fishing gear, lunch and drinks are all provided for.
